Steelworks Center Of The West


The Steelworks museum & archives offer exhibits & artifacts related to all parts of the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company and its associated industries’ impacts on the Western United States. Examples include the histories of western industrialization, coal and iron mining, steel production, labor issues, western immigration and the Denver & Rio Grande and Colorado and Wyoming railroads.

The archives are housed in the old CF&I administration building and the museum in the former CF&I Medical Infirmary both buildings were built in the early 1900s. The first integrated steel mill west of the Mississippi River was CF&I. CF&I was the largest employer and land owner at one point in Colorado History.
